WHAT’S MY NAME?

OK, start by taking a full pack of cards, remove the jokers and shuffle the rest of the pack. During this trick I will ask you to deal cards onto the table but you are going to be mixing the cards so some will be face up and some will be face down. The important thing to remember throughout this trick is, don’t turn over the cards unless I tell you to. In other words, if a card is face down and I tell you to deal it onto the table, leave it face down when you deal. Likewise, if it is face up, leave it face up when you deal.

Now deal 4 cards down in a neat pile. Cut the cards in your hand and complete the cut. Next deal 3 cards onto the pile. Cut the remaining cards again and complete the cut. Deal 2 cards onto the pile. Cut the remaining cards and complete the cut. Finally, deal 1 card onto the pile. Cut the remaining cards once more and complete the cut.

Now look at the top card of the pack in your hand. This will be your chosen card so remember it before putting it down onto the pile and putting the remaining cards onto your card.

Pick up all the cards and get ready to deal.

Choose a number between 1 and 35 and deal that number of cards into a pile on the table. Turn over the cards in your hand and place them face up onto the pile. Remember, don’t turn over any card unless I tell you to. If it is face up, leave it that way as we are going to mix up the cards. Pick up all the cards and get ready to deal – remember not to turn over the cards as you pick them up!

If you chose a red card, deal 13 cards onto the table in a pile. If you chose a black card, deal 15 cards onto the table in a pile. Turn the cards in your hand over and put them onto the pile on the table. Pick up all the cards and get ready to deal – remember not to turn over the cards as you pick them up!

If you chose a Heart or Spade, deal 17 cards onto the table in a pile. If you chose a Diamond or Club, deal 19 cards onto the table in a pile. Turn the cards in your hand over and put them onto the pile on the table. Pick up all the cards and get ready to deal – remember not to turn over the cards as you pick them up!

Now we get to the interesting part. Simply spell out my name and deal a card for each letter.

B – A – R – R – Y

H – A – R – V – E – Y

If the last card you dealt is face up, you will be amazed already but if it is face down, turn it over and you will see it is the card you chose at the start of this trick!
